I have been pondering the constitutionality of our Bonner County primary election on May 17. The two commissioner races were basically a general election. There were only two candidates in each race, both Republicans and unfortunately only Republicans were allowed to vote.

So now we have two commissioners representing us, that about 45 percent of us weren’t allowed to vote for. I am not a Republican, but do have opinions on the best Republican to represent me. When only one party is represented in a race in the primary, I believe Democrats and independents should be allowed to cross over and vote or the race should be moved to the general election. I think it is a basic tenant of the Constitution that we all (legally registered voters) get to vote for who represents us.
