The Democrat running against state Rep. Heather Scott, R-Blanchard, in this election is strangely silent about an issue that’s very important to me and a majority of us in District 1: where she stands on gun rights. But silence is a message, too.

McAlister doesn’t talk about gun rights or the Second Amendment anywhere on her website. She has a aero rating from the National Rifle Association because she has so far not answered their questionnaire.

So we have to surmise that gun rights are either a subject of no interest to her, or she’s afraid that if she reveals how she feels about it, she’s going to be perceived as out of touch with North Idaho voters.

Heather Scott has been endorsed by the NRA as a strong supporter of gun rights. She helped make permitless carry a reality in Idaho during the 2016 legislative session. Gun owners appreciate that.

My vote goes to Heather Scott.
