n Schweitzer turning white — I just gazed out the window and noticed that it isn’t all rain… Schweitzer is turning white! This year has the feel of past great snow years, so get those boards sharp and slippery.

n Shiffrin starts back on the podium — Mikaela Shiffrin started the season in good form, taking Silver at the Solden, Austria Giant Slalom. Ted Ligety skied to a strong fifth place, coming off last year’s injury. The Men and Women return to action Nov 12th with Slalom at Levi, Finland.

n Ski Swap — SARS will be hosting the annual Ski Swap at the Bonner County Fairgrounds on Nov. 12 so come find that great deal. Equipment turn-in for sale will be in the afternoon on Friday, Nov 11. Sales will be Saturday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Entry is $2 per person or $5 for a family. Watch for more details next week.

n A Sandpoint Classic — Warren Miller Returns. It’s not Winter until the Warren Miller movie appears at the Panida. This year’s show will be on Saturday, Nov. 12th, compliments of the Alpine Shop. This film is titled “Here, There and Everywhere,” with the traditional mix of extreme skiing, numerous unique World destinations, plus Miller’s special brand of humor.

WARNING: There’s only one show and we always sell out. Get to the Alpine Shop now to pick up your tickets. And bring your wallet to the show, because we’ll once again have a fun silent auction up front and the Independence Great Outdoors raffle in the lobby.

n Junior Race Series sign-up — Fliers for the January Independence Junior Race Series will be at the local ski shops by Friday. This popular series features free coaching, lots of prizes, lots of kids and lots of fun. There’s been no change in the cost for 12 years, show me something else like that.

Racers meet four Friday evenings in January from 5:30-7 p.m. No excuses, come join the fun. Historically we get an 80 percent participant return rate, so you better register now. Forms can be found at the Alpine Shop and Sandpoint Sports.

n Potpourri — The Edge will appear every Thursday until April, with all your ski racing news. Any comments, recommendations or contributions to this column may be sent to Shep Snow by email at shep@thesnowschool.com. Negative feedback should be sent to someone else.
