Week features plethora of entertainment options

SANDPOINT — No shortage of entertainment action this week, with lots to choose from in almost every artistic genre.

Check out Comedy Night tomorrow at the Panida, as well as the great sounds of Mobius Riff at Eichardt’s Pub that same evening. Saturday is a very big day, with the Sandpoint Film Festival leading the charge all day at the Panida.

On Election Day, next Tuesday, you’ll want to join some truly talented kids as students from Farmin Stidwell Elementary present a Veterans’ Day musical program to salute all who have served.

And for those heading to Spokane, it’s “Elf Jr. — The Musical”, this Friday and Saturday at The Bing.

Here’s the scoop on what’s happening:

Friday, Nov. 4

‘Comedy Night’ at Panida

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 4

Michael Glatzmaier has been playing guitar since the age of 8 and has been improvising comedy since high school and has performed his one man show mostly improvised from Seattle to NYC. Mostly improvised, his musical comedy show takes suggestions from the audience then gets turned into improvised songs on the spot. Michael’s material is based on life stories of being the youngest of five boys, awkward relationships and not being the brightest tool in the shed.

After 10 years in the corporate world, Phillip Kopczynski dove into stand up, talking about growing up in a small town and being a fish out of water in modern society with a young family. He has placed second at the Colorado Satellite for the World Series of Comedy and won Valleyfest Clean Comedy Competition. Adult content.

Mobius Riff at Eichardt’s Pub

Venue: Eichardt’s Pub. 212 Cedar St. in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4

Join this incredibly talented four-piece combo for a musical trip to remember. Mobius Riff specializes in stellar improvisation, with each band member adding to the rich, sonic tapestry. Put this one on your list for a great night out!

Ron Keiper at Pend d’Oreille Winery

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-8:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4

Ron is back at the winery tasting room, packing along some of the best saxophone playing in the region.

Admission: Free and open to the public.

Devon Wade at MickDuff’s Beer Hall

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4

Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint with a strong love for what country music has always been, songs about real life.

Admission: Free to those 21 and over.

‘Elf, Jr., The Musical’ at The Bing

Venue: Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Time: 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4

CYT Spokane presents this fun, family show based on the cherished New Line Cinema hit Elf, where Buddy the Elf embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity.

Elf JR. features songs by Tony Award-nominees, Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin. Additional shows on Nov. 5, 11, 12 and 13.

Saturday, Nov. 5

‘Sandpoint Film Festival’

Venue: Panida, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Three blocks of film showings: 11 a.m.; 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5

An amazing array of short films 20 minutes and less from around the globe. Each block brings you something wonderful. Come rain or shine you need to be inside, the Panida for this international all day treat.

The all-day pass actually includes all the other activities too, the Pre-production Party on Friday evening from 4:30-6 p.m. at Trinity at City Beach, and the Filmmakers Coffee at Creations on the Cedar Street Bridge on Saturday from 8-10 a.m., plus all three blocks.

Admission: $8.50 per block or $21 for all-day pass, available at the box office or panida.org

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Venue: East Bonner County Library/Sandpoint Branch, 1407 Church St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5

The red and gold leaves are carpeting the lawns, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. It’s a perfect time to come to the next FOL book sale to stock up for the beautiful Sandpoint fall. This month’s sale features cookbooks, non-fiction at half price, westerns for $1 per bag, holiday books, Christmas crafts and decorations. Put on your coats, hats and scarves and join your friends once more to support our library and our community.

Admission: Free and open to the public.

Harvest Dinner at Sandpoint Senior Center

Venue: Sandpoint Senior Center, 820 Main St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5

Join community friends for a delicious pork dinner with all of the trimmings.

There will be a cash bar for beer and wine to complement the other foods served.

The fundraiser is to support the food programs at Sandpoint Senior Center, which serves a congregate lunch Monday-Thursday at 11:30 a.m., with a salad bar on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Volunteer drivers deliver freshly cooked meals to the Home Delivered Meals participants five days a week.

Admission: $20, available at the Sandpoint Senior Center office.

DJ Josh Adams at 219 Lounge

Bringing it Back to the Blues at MickDuff’s Beer Hall

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., Sandpoint

Time: 7-10 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5

This special event features local Soul and Blues songwriter Kevin Dorin. He will be accompanied by Peter Hicks and joined on stage with an assortment of local Sandpoint Musicians. Come and be among the first to hear songs that will be recorded on Kevin’s next record with esteemed blues producer Eric Corne in LA!

Admission: $11, which includes a CD recorded in Sandpoint using beautiful vintage recording gear that was found locally and repaired by Kevin himself.

Learn to Homebrew Day at MickDuff’s Beer Hall

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., Sandpoint

Time: 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5

National Learn to Home Brew Day is November 5th and MickDuff’s Brewing Co. Beer Hall is hosting a 7B Hop Heads demonstration brew day. The plan is to start mashing in at around 10 a.m. under two tents. If the weather really isn’t cooperating, they will utilize the brewery space as well. Veteran’s Day Music Program at Farmin Stidwell Elementary

Venue: Farmin Stidwell Elementary School (gym),

You will be moved and amazed as these talented young singers pay tribute to our veterans in this very special musical presentation. Students featured in this musical performance students come from Mrs. Bruhjell, Mrs. Weiden and Mr. Price’s classes.

Also featured will be singers from the two new choirs that meet in the morning before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, under the capable direction of Tami Belzer Gunter.

Family members, veterans and members of the community are invited and welcome to attend as we honor our veterans.

Wednesday, Nov. 9

‘The Conversation’ at Ivano’s

Venue: Ivano’s Ristorante, 102 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Join Becky Revak, director, John Mark Maio, composer and Patricia Walker, producer of The Panida Theater Production of the latest musical sensation ‘Christmas Carole’ as they discuss the upcoming slate of shows set for Dec. 16, 17, 18, 22, and 23 at the Panida.

Come and get a sneak preview of the show with the live performance of ‘How Could You Leave’ sung by Debbie Lindner, Steve Neuder, and Elizabeth Neuder with music composed and arranged by John Maio. The discussion will also cover some of the highlights of the Panida’s celebration of its 89th birthday of The Panida Building and the 31st birthday of the Movement To Save the Panida, such as The Golden Age of Hollywood Gala on Nov. 19.

The Conversation is a monthly event with the intent to support our artist community by cultivating conversations on and about the creative processes for all the visual, literary, and performing artists in and around Sandpoint and is graciously sponsored by the non-profit Creations for Sandpoint on the Cedar Street Bridge.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live! at The Fox
