Nov. 6, 1966 — LEADERS ENTHUSIASTIC

Boy Scout leaders from over the nation sang the praises of Farragut State Park as site of next year’s World Boy Scout Jamboree during last weekend’s regional Scouters meeting in Spokane. The 300 delegates toured the site Friday afternoon.

“Farragut has everything we need — including some of the world’s most spectacular scenery,” said Horace Gorton, Kansas City. “I would say Farragut is certainly one of the most beautiful and satisfactory sites on earth. Elmaar H. Baaken of Boy Scout national headquarters at New Brunswick, N.J., said the Northwest, particularly the 5,000-acre site at Farragut on Lake Pend Oreille, has “two tremendous assets — beautiful countryside and western hospitality.”

During the Friday tour, visitors saw the 50,000 person amphitheater, the 800-ft. swimming beach and the area of Buttonhook Bay where a 600-ft. net will enclose the waters where 20,000 fish are scheduled to be planted for catching by Scouts.

KAMLOOP CAUGHT

George Odom, Westmond, really started out last Thursday to hunt ducks. He and Francis Smith wound up the trip with a little fishing in the mouth of the Clark Fork river. Odom had never fished for Kamloops before. His first try got him a large one. It weighed 30 pounds when weighed at Clark Fork and still was at 28 pounds when weighed several hours later in Hope.
