Artistic offerings bring goodness, sweetness & joy

SANDPOINT — After a whirlwind week like the one we all just experienced, perhaps it’s time to get out and relish all the goodness and sweetness and artistic excellence that make our community so delightful.

We can join the dance Friday night at Community hall, take in an exceptional rendering of Hamlet this weekend and next at the Heartwood Center, drop in for the Andy Hackbarth Band concert at the Panida and attend Friday’s POAC art show reception at the POAC Gallery. Plus, a whole lot more.

Thursday, Nov. 10

‘Magic Hour’

Venue: North Idaho College/Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., in Coeur d’Alene.

Time: 7:30 p.m., Thursday

This free concert features the Cardinal Vocal Jazz and the North Idaho College Jazz Ensemble playing a variety of jazz standards, old and new.

‘Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live!’

Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox Theater, 1001 West Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Time: 6:30 p.m., Thursday

The legacy of the beloved Mister Rogers lives on with the hit television series, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood”, from The Fred Rogers Company and airing daily on PBS KIDS.

This live theatrical production filled with singing, dancing, laughter and ‘grr-ific’ surprises will warm the hearts of multiple generations.

Friday, Nov. 11

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m., Friday

Celebrate the joys of community by dancing with friends, those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Live music will be provided by ‘Arvid Lundin & Deep Roots’ and all dances are called by Emily Faulkner.

‘Hamlet’

Venue: The Heartwood Center, 615 Oak St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors at 7 p.m., curtain at 7:30 p.m., Friday

A father’s death. A son’s madness. A grief that will tear asunder an entire kingdom. Love, loyalty, and carefully crafted facades give way to death and decay in one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays, ‘Hamlet: The Prince Of Denmark’ as adapted and directed by Michael Bigley. Don’t miss this passionate tragedy featuring some of Sandpoint’s best talent, presented by Unknown Locals.

Andy Hackbarth Band

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m., Friday

Award-winning singer/songwriter/guitarist Andy Hackbarth and his band return to Sandpoint as part of their 2016 ‘Steal You Away’ tour.

The Americana group will lean heavily on tracks from their newest offering, “Panorama Motel”. Written and recorded in the wake of a messy breakup, the record finds Hackbarth singing over acoustic guitars, dobro, upright bass and organ, turning his recent brush with heartbreak into some of the most moving songs of his career.

‘Native Art’ art show opening

Venue: Pend Oreille Arts Council Gallery, 302 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Devon Wade

Simon Tucker

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-8:30 p.m., Friday

Simon Tucker’s solo acoustic sets highlight his soulful voice, songwriting and virtuosic ability on the guitar, an experience that pairs perfectly with a Friday night.

Ron Greene

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m., Friday

Ron Greene is heading north for another special night at the Beer Hall. Ron is a dynamic musical presence, spending the last decade performing throughout the West.

Poly-rhythmics concert

Venue: The Hive, First Ave., downtown Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 8 p.m., concert starts at 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11

‘Emily Dickinson’

Venue: Bonners Books, 7195 Main St. Main St., in Bonners Ferry

Time: 7 p.m., Friday

This beautiful play about the life and poetry of Emily Dickinson stars Rhea Verbanic as Emily, with Vicki Blake Thompson as her Muse and Barb Nelson providing accompaniment on John’s grand piano.

Directed by Paul Rawlings, this little jewel of a play is not to be missed. The bookstore seats just 35 people for each performance; your tickets should be obtained right away so you don’t miss out.
