Carol A. Lewis, 77

Carol A. Lewis, 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, in Sandpoint Assisted Living inSandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the Sandpoint Senior Center. All of her wonderful friends, neighbors, associates, AA and NA family are welcome to celebrate her life and share memories. Her artwork will be displayed and for sale at that time.

Carol was born to Richard and Clemma Octavia Hawkins on Sept. 14, 1939, at Seaside Mem-orial Hospital in Long Beach, Calif. Carol was the youngest of two children. Her mother was from a large family from Tennessee. Her brother was her senior by more than 20 years.

Carol spent most of her life in Long Beach. She had a strong and exciting history there and was eager to share memories with anyone who grew up or lived in that area.

She worked as an executive secretary for Sealand Corporation as well as other secretarial positions.

In 1991, she moved to Priest River, Idaho. Here, she fell in love with the incredible landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. She worked for Reilly Creek Lumber Co. Carol moved to the Sandpoint area and worked for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, which she later retired from.

She supported local programs including S.L. Start, Kinderhaven, Bonner General Health, Sandpoint Senior Center, Pend Oreille Arts Council and the Create Center in Newport.

An accomplished and gifted watercolor artist, Carol studied under Kathryn Haynes of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Some of her work is displayed at Bonner General Health and she won blue ribbons at the Bonner County Fair.

Carol loved her cats, children and the scenic outdoor scapes of North Idaho.

She enjoyed gardening and keeping a lovely, well-kept home.

She is survived by her son, David Papst of Prince Frederick, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Bracey Lewis Hawkins.
