Holiday spirit brightens week's entertainment options

SANDPOINT – Happy Thanksgiving! The holiday spirit gets into gear this week, with a fun run this morning at Travers Park, the big tree lighting and arrival of Santa Friday evening at Jeff Jones Square and two – count ’em! – Shook Twins concerts over the weekend.

Add to that Panida movies, artist demonstrations at ArtWorks Gallery and live music all over the place and you’ve got one fun week of entertainment. Plus, we peek ahead at upcoming holiday events, just so you don’t miss anything cool.

Thursday, Nov. 24

9th Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run at Travers Park

Venue: Travers Park, 1202 W. Pine St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 a.m. (arrive early to register and donate food items) – Thursday, Nov. 24

The ninth annual Turkey Trot Food Drive includes both a 5k 10K run – or choose how far you want to walk or run. No bikes allowed, thank you. or whatever distance you want to run or walk (no bikes, please). Sponsored by Sandpoint West Athletic Club and Sandpoint Parks and Recreation Department

Admission: Free with a donation of non-perishable food items to the Bonner Community Food Bank.

Friday, Nov. 25

Christmas Tree Lighting and Arrival of Santa at Jeff Jones Square

Venue: Jeff Jones Town Square, adjacent to Farmin Park in downtown Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7 p.m. – Friday, Nov. 25

It’s an old-fashioned kickoff for the holidays, with carolers, hot apple cider and, of course, the ceremonial tree lighting and much-anticipated arrival of Santa Claus! Sponsored by Sandpoint BID and Creations on the Cedar Street Bridge.

‘A Man Called Ove’ film at the Panida

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 7 p.m., film starts at 7:30 p.m. – Friday, Nov. 25

‘A Man Called Ove’ tells the familiar story of the curmudgeonly old man whose grumpy life is brightened by forces beyond his control. These forces take the guise of a much younger person who provides a sense of purpose for the old hero. A film like this rises or falls not only with its central performance, but also with its ability to engage the viewer’s emotions in a credible, honest fashion. Rated PG-13

Shook Twins concert at Pearl Theater

Venue: The Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash St., in Bonners Ferry.

Time: Doors and café open at 6:30 p.m., concerts starts at 7:30 p.m. – Friday, Nov. 25.

One of the area’s sweetest seasonal traditions is the return of the Shook Twins for concerts “back home.” They’ll be on stage in this wonderful listening environment, playing original songs with their top-notch band. A great evening out!

The Powers at Pend d’Oreille Winery

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-8:30 p.m. – Friday, Nov. 25

The Powers call their style of music a bland of Indie folk and country. Based out of Coeur d’Alene, the group had a delightful mix of parts including vocal harmonies with acoustic guitar and banjos fighting fiddles.

Ron Greene at MickDuff’s Beer Hall

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Ron Greene is heading north for anothert special night at the Beer Hall. Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West coast. As a soloist Greene’s intimate stage presence has gained him a reputation as a passionate singer.

Shook Twins ‘Giving Thanks’ concert at the Panida

Sandpoint’s favorite father-daughter duo is back at the Pend d’Oreille Winery! Mike is on the guitar and Sadie rounds things our with the djembe drum and killer vocals. Their harmonies are top shelf and they have a knack for playing that certain tune that causes a crowd to want to sing along.

‘The Entertainer’ Screen-to-Stage at The Bing
