Why did Sandpoint High School Athletic Director Chris Knowles fail to explain a 5-percent decrease would cut $82,241 over a two-year period rather than $411,210 per year after it already had been reported that the proposed levy amount for extracurriculars was $822,409 per year? Why did AD Knowles not explain that the proposed $67,000 per year increase in coaches’ salaries is a 15.3-percent increase, though the overall proposed increase for extracurriculars is 8.9-percent? Why did AD Knowles not provide the dollar amounts for league memberships and state associations that he implied were at risk? Sports are rewarding and all extracurriculars could benefit from a smaller increase for the few who are coaches with the remainder distributed more broadly for all extracurriculars.

Why did Andra Murray, director of teaching and learning, ask for a 151-percent increase (from $225,800 per year to $555,800 per year) without more detailed explanation about the need for the increase? Why an extra $300,000 per year rather than merely one year? What is the dollar amount per year she proposes to spend on instructional material?

What would be the annual cost of repair of existing buildings, especially of dangerously deficient structures and infrastructures? Do fiduciary responsibilities require the detailed explanations for short and long term plans for the safety of students and teachers alike?

The fate of the next levy vote may be determined by the perception of clear and complete disclosure well before the vote is taken.
