Pair claim derby wins

SANDPOINT — The boats are docked, the rods hung up and the fish safely weighed. With the conclusion of the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club’s fall derby, Don Hale and Gale Belgarde Jr. have claimed the final top spots after the unofficial final results were released Sunday night.

Hale hooked a 19.02-pound rainbow to claim top spot in that division, and Gale Belgarde Jr. caught a 18.84-pound fish to win the mackinaw division.

Behind Hale in the rainbow division was Dave Turner, Chris Bier and Jim Carothers in second, third and fourth, respectively. Making his way onto the final leaderboard in the rainbow division was Aaron Nelson, who caught a 16.44-pound, 32.5-inch fish to earn fifth-place honors.

While Belgarde held the top spot in the mackinaw division throughout the derby, Paul Meringer’s 18.42-pound mackinaw measuring 36.5 inches on the final day of the derby was enough to claim second place. Finishing third was Art Webb and fourth, Charlie LaDuca.

Alexis Berbe won the Junior division,with a 19-pound, 35-inch rainbow; followed by Kameron Roslak in second and Ryan Johnson, who caught an 11.94-pound, 31-inch rainbow over the weekend to finish in third.

Nolan Stewart won the Youth A division with a 14-72-pound, 31.75-inch rainbow. Clare Belgarde won the Youth B division with a 8.66-pound, 27-inch mackinaw.

1. Nolan Stewart, 14.72-pound, 31.75-inch rainbow; 2. Taylor Michielli, 14.34-pound, 30-inch rainbow; 3. Carson Laybourne, 13.08-pound, 30-inch rainbow.

Youth B Division:

1. Clare Belgarde, 8.66-pound, 27-inch mackinaw; 2. Chloe Layboure, 7.06. 23.5; and 3. Buck Vanderkolk, 6.40 pounds, 25 inches.
