Stevens shines as Wampus Cats fall to Royals

| November 29, 2016 12:00 AM

CLARK FORK — Sophomore Brooke Stevens showed why she’ll be one of the top players in the North Star League this season, posting 22 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists, but it wasn’t enough as the Wampus Cats lost 42-38 to the Royals in North Star League girls basketball Monday night at Clark Fork High School.

Mary Schlader led the Royals with 12 points, as their size wore Clark Fork (0-2) down in the second half.

“They got to the free throw line more than we did in the fourth quarter. We had trouble handling their big girls inside,” said Cats head coach Mark Stevens, lauding the play of Brooke in defeat. “She was very aggressive, pushed it to the basket and looked for her shot.”

Tessa Sutton added six points and 12 boards for the Cats, who led by one at half in a game that was tight for much of the night.

Clark Fork hosts Coeur d’Alene Charter on Saturday.
