Louise Cecelia 'Sissy' Raftery, 79

Louise Cecelia “Sissy” Raftery, 79, formerly of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Family inurnment services will be held in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Louise was born on Feb. 5, 1937, in Cabinet, Idaho, the daughter of William and Celia Hummitsh and attended the Cabinet Flats and Clark Fork schools. She married James “Jay” Raftery on May 21, 1953, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Louise was a “Navy wife,” supporting Jay’s career and living on Navy bases in San Diego, Long Beach, Hawaii, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Following Jay’s retirement they returned to Clark Fork with their family. Louise raised her children while supporting Jay as a barber and later his career with the U.S. Forest Service.

For 12 years, Louise and Jay were “snowbirds” spending winters in Yuma, Ariz. She enjoyed the desert wildlife and visiting family and friends in California. Jay and Louise were married for 60 years and she was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of six.

She is survived by three children, Teresa in Clark Fork, Idaho; Nancy in Dover, Idaho, James in Clark Fork, and Nancy Hofmeister in Dover. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Mary, Anne Higgins in Boise, Idaho; and her cousin, Pat Derr in Clark Fork.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay; her brother, Bill; and a grandson, Michael Malley.

She was loved and will be missed.
