Oct. 18, 1966 — BALLOTS DELAYED

Due to failure on the part of responsible state officials to promptly clear up problems that developed as a result of the filing of independent candidates Phillip Jungert and Perry Swisher for governor, in addition to the regular party candidates, it has been necessary to completely revise the official ballot.

This has caused a delay in absentee balloting. Doris L. Kenney, county auditor, said the corrected ballots will be available Monday for balloting.

She said anyone leaving the area before that time can stop in at the office and leave a forwarding address and a ballot will be mailed out as soon as possible.

More than half of the counties in the state are having to reprint the ballots because of lack of adequate information from the office of Secretary of State and delayed legal rulings from the Attorney General’s office.

Oct. 18, 1916 — WILL SUE COUNTY

At the regular city council meeting last night the amount of money due the city from Bonner county was thoroughly discussed. It has been discussed at nearly every meeting for some years, but until last night nothing of record had been done.

Idaho law gives incorporated towns 25 per cent of all general road and bridge levies as applied to taxable property within the limits of any city, and Sandpoint has never been paid from taxes the county has collected, extending back to 1907. According to city treasurer A.K. Bowden, Bonner county owes the city of Sandpoint $6,186.29.

Former City Attorney A.H. Conner said he would undertake to collect this amount from the county for a fee of $150. On motion Mr. Conner’s proposition was accepted, and suit against the county will be instituted at once.
