School funding survey deadline Sunday

| October 22, 2016 1:00 AM

The Idaho State Board of Education and the Idaho Legislature’s Public School Funding Formula Interim Committee have partnered to collect public input from Idahoans on how the state’s public schools are funded.

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 4, an online public opinion survey was opened to all Idaho citizens to provide comments and opinions regarding how the state’s public school districts and public charter schools are funded.

The last day to complete the survey will be Sunday, Oct. 23.

The survey was developed in support of the work of the Idaho Legislature’s Public School Funding Formula Interim Committee, which is charged with undertaking a complete study of the public school funding formula and making recommendations for improvement.

The interim committee is evaluating the existing formula to assess how it meets the needs of different learning modalities, serves Idaho students, and provides fiscal stability to public school districts and public charter schools.

The survey can be accessed online from the board’s homepage www.boardofed.idaho.gov, and all responses are anonymous. The survey results will be presented to the Interim Committee at its next public meeting, which is scheduled for Dec. 13.

The State Board of Education is charged with the general supervision and governance of the public educational institutions and the public school system of the State of Idaho.
