I applaud Mike Crapo for co-sponsoring a bill with Democrat Patrick Leahy to strengthen and expand the 1994 Violence Against Women Act. This is the way our government is supposed to work for us, across the aisle, getting the business of the nation done. More of that, Mike.
In 2013, The U.S. House passed the reauthorization of the 1994 Violence Against Women Act on a 286-138 vote.
Crapo voted for the reauthorization as did Second District Rep. Mike Simpson
Our 1st District Rep. Raul Labrador voted no.He votes 93 percent of the time with his party.
Republicans first tried to pass a House version of the bill, proposed by Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers, R-Wash., failed 166 to 257, with Labrador backing the amendment and Simpson opposed.
Sen. Mike Crapo, the lead GOP sponsor, was in the majority of a 78-22 vote. Sen. Jim Risch voted no.
We have real choices in this election. Our votes count.
