First Presbyterian hosts Wednesday evening talks
The community is invited to the Getting to Know Our Neighbors, Peacemaking Through Community series at the First Presbyterian Church of Sandpoint each Wednesday evening in September. Gathering time is from 5:30 to 6:00 with the talk and discussion from 6-7 p.m.
“The FPC is delighted to continue the September Peacemaking Series this year,” said Pastor Andy Kennaly. The FPC has hosted 8 sessions over the past two years and has heard from the Antioch Orthodox Church in Naples, the local Jewish and Baha’i communities, members of the LDS church, the Benedictine Monastery of St Gertrude, the Tibetan Buddhists from the Sravasti Abbey in Newport, the Quakers and the local Sandpoint Sangha community.
September 21 annually recognizes the International Day of Peace. For a third year, FPC will offer interfaith and ecumenical discussion by inviting four more faith traditions for insightful conversations.
The schedule includes September 7, Romi Elnagar, local Muslim woman; 14, the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church; 21, Mark Reiner, Metaphysical Minister; 28, the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
The FPC is located at 417 N Fourth Avenue in Sandpoint. Pastor Andy Kennaly will facilitate the discussions.
Getting to know our neighboring faith communities helps dispel mystery and perhaps misinformation about them, encouraging people to be welcoming, comfortable, and hospitable. Listening to stories of faith journeys and faithful practices can evoke deeper conversations, stirring one to ask such questions as: What does this say about the Divine? What do I believe, and what has led me to believe it? How does this influence how I live today? Getting to know one’s neighbors can evoke peace.
The community is invited.
