Sept. 6, 1966 — NEWS IN THE CITY

Magazine girls were reported working the business district. They claimed they were Candy Stripers. Officers rounded them up and gave them a talking to.

Mrs. Allen Baugh of Sandpoint spent worried moments Monday when her daughter Debbie, age three, wandered off from Sandpoint IGA Supermarket. The child was located a short time later at Smith Real Estate office on Fifth.

HORSE SHOW WINNERS

Bonner County 4-H horse show was held under cloudy skies Saturday.

Winners included Norma Riffle, Kathy Poirier, Dan Balch, Dave Balch, Peggy Watts, Terry Thom, Don Gollen and Delbert Wood.

Delbert Wood was the Bonner county grand champion in equitation and Dave Balch was Bonner county fitting and showing champion

SPORTSMEN TO ASSIST

Bonner County Sportsmen’s Assn. has offered to assist the Idaho Fish and Game Department in an accelerated program of planting mysis shrimp in Lake Pend Oreille, Con Gissel, vice president of the organization said.

The unusual mysis thrives only in certain types of lakes and is credited with exceptional growth of kokanee in several Canadian waters.

Sept. 6, 2016 — RR STRIKE CALLED OFF

The threat of a general railroad strike which has hung like a pall over the country was lifted tonight. After the senate passed the Adamson eight-hour day bill, the heads of the railroad employees’ brotherhoods sent messages to their general chairmen all over the country canceling the strike order, which was to take effect Monday. Only President Wilson’s prompt and energetic action averted what would have been the greatest strike the country has ever seen. Already food prices had started to go up and it would have meant much suffering among the poor of the cities.

LARGE VOTE IN COUNTY PRIMARY

Tuesday’s primary was more exciting than any in years, the excitement confined entirely to the republican ticket, with contestants for every office with few exceptions. The democrat vote was very light, with only one contest on the county ticket, not prosecuted with any energy, and but two on the state ticket, the competition there no keener.

Only democrat and republican tickets went on the ballot, socialists nominating by mass meeting and progressives having abandoned their party.

KING-THORPE WEDDING

Miss Myrtle King and Ray Thorpe, who were married Thursday by Rev. Jones at the Methodist parsonage in Coeur d’Alene, returned here last night and will be at home to friends at 607 Cedar.
