There are beacons of light that keep shinning even in the midst of all the crazy things happening daily. We look for the “small town” feel for comfort and peace.
For this feeling I give you Bob Hayes of Hazy’s Chevron in Clark Fork. This unsung and humble man is a local hero to many. For years, he coached the Clark Fork basketball team after his own long day at his station. Each year he has organized and promoted the great Fourth of July parade and celebration. I went to a “lemonade stand” at the far end of his parking lot the other day, ordering a frozen treat of some sort after reading the cardboard box menu. the young man said, “OK, I’ll go get it from the station freezer.” Bob was letting the kids sell their goods and keep them in the station’s freezer along with his products. That’s Hazy.
He has been at his station over 50 years and has rescued untold hundreds of stranded motorist and folks broken down on a trip. Or opening his station in the middle of the night to fill a tank for customers who had to start out on an emergency trip. The stories go on and on.
This wonderful man asks for nothing and everyone loves him. He is what America is and should be about. Stop by once and you will have a friend each time you return. We love you, Bob.
