Frank Kennedy, 87
Frank Kennedy, 87, passed away at his home in Ponderay, Idaho, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Frank was born on July 2, 1929, to John and Mattie Kennedy in Bulldog Holler, Premier, W.V. He grew up in Beckley, W.V., and attended Roosevelt High School. Frank served his country in the United States Navy from 1951-1954.
Frank married Barbara Dunn on Feb. 15, 1958, in Lexington, Ohio. They made their home in Portland, Ore., where Frank worked as a forklift driver for Brand-S Corp. In 1977, Frank helped start the Laclede Mill, where he loaded their very first railcar.
Frank retired from Riley Creek Lumber Company in 1994. Nobody ever enjoyed their retirement more than Frank. His favorite adventure was catching a 50-pound king salmon in the Kenai River with his son Jim in Alaska and hiking up the Russian River to the falls. He is a member of the Sandpoint Elks Lodge, where he served as golf marshal on Wednesdays. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, rafting, and camping. He took up golf after the age of 50.
Frank is survived by his wife, Barbara Kennedy of Ponderay; a son, Jim (Sue) Kennedy of Girdwood, Alaska; a daughter, Kim (Brian) Carey of Oldtown, Idaho; three grandchildren, Davenie (Ty Tuttle) Carey, Keith (Rene) Carey, and Wyatt Kennedy; two great-grandchildren, Madison Carey and Layah Tuttle; a sister, Elizabeth Dobbins of Westerville, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Donna Davidson of Florence, Ariz.; and special friends, Rex and Sheri Remmers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and six brothers.
