Talk explores Wallace, Lincoln friendship

| September 9, 2016 1:00 AM

The Friends of the West Bonner Libraries cordially invites community residents to attend a presentation by David Leroy on “William Wallace: Lincoln’s Friend”.

The program will be held at the Priest River Library, 118 Main St., on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11:30 a.m. The program is funded in part by the Idaho Humanities Council, a non-profit organization that serves as the state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

In period dress and first person, as William Wallace, the first territorial governor of Idaho, Mr. Leroy confirms what you only recently heard … the President has been shot. He tells of his friendship with Lincoln since the 1840s and recounts how Lincoln, by word and deed was a friend to everyone in Idaho Territory. The audience is encouraged to assume the role of a group of pioneers.

Presenter David Leroy, a former prosecutor, Attorney General and lieutenant governor, has been lecturing on Lincoln since 1976. He is the author of many articles and a book on Abraham Lincoln, the country’s 16th president. Leroy has a collection of historic artifacts relating to Lincoln’s life, which he uses to enhance his talks.

The event is free and open to the public.
