SANDPOINT — The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint celebrated its grand expansion on Saturday, Aug. 27 with an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

The music conservatory now occupies the entire building at 110 Main Street and hosted an all-day event to showcase the new facility.

The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint is a non-profit school of music and performing arts that has been serving the Sandpoint area since 2009 offering private lessons, a children’s choir and orchestra and repertoire classes such as string ensemble, musical theater and Shakespeare. Over 200 students of all ages and abilities are currently enrolled.

Local jazz piano legend Bill Reid’s grand piano was donated to the conservatory in his memory, made possible with help from the William Wishnik Foundation and the Equinox Foundation. Bill was honored in a tribute by Peter Lucht, Maria Larson and Larry Hannah.

After the ribbon cutting, music conservatory instructors performed in the new auditorium and hosted local artists in a show.

The grand expansion celebration included musical crafts, face painting and an instrument petting zoo for children, Repertoire Program performances and a drum circle with Ali Thomas and Cody Mills. The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint Children’s Theater performed “The Importance of Being Earnest”.
