Knights top Wampus Cats in WSL showdown
CLARK FORK — Bryar Sanchez accounted for five touchdowns, leading the Lakeside Knights to a 38-14 road win over Wampus Cats in White Star League football action Friday night in Clark Fork.
Sanchez had scoring runs of 35, 5 and 3 yards, and also threw for two scores, as the Knights (2-1, 1-1 WSL) were able to break contain, which in eight man football means big plays.
Jordan Davidson also got the edge for an 80 yard scoring romp, as the Knights capitalized on the Wampus Cats’ mistakes. Sanchez earned the respect of Clark Fork (1-2, 1-1 WSL) head coach Brian Arthun.
“He’s just a really tough player. He just took over the game, ran the ball hard,” described Arthun. “We had trouble getting to him scrambling around. He broke contain quite a few times.”
Noah Bova rushed for 113 on 14 carries, including an 85 yard romp that gave the Cats a brief first quarter lead, and Wade Stevens had a strong game with 98 yards rushing on 10 attempts and 73 yards passing in defeat.
“Wade showed a lot of heart. He came out in the second half and played one of the better halves I’ve seen,” said Arthun, who felt his team beat itself. “We had three turnovers and multiple penalties. We’ll go back to the drawing board and work on fixing the things we’re not doing right.”
Clark Fork is at Tekoa-Rosalia on Friday.
