Bristol powers Cats in win

ALBERTON, Mont. — Hailey Bristol hammered home nine kills, and Brooke Stevens finished with 26 set assists and four aces to lead the Clark Fork Wampus Cats to a 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 25-11 win over the Clark Fork Mountain Cats in nonleague volleyball on Monday in Montana.

The Wampus Cats (2-1) showed no signs of a long bus ride, claiming the first set and then getting stronger as the match wore on, partly due to good depth in the rotation.

Allison Warner added five kills, six digs and three aces, Emily Garman 11 digs, Ellie Lambert six digs and Ali Sutton three aces for the Cats, who are in the midst of a busy week that includes a long bus ride to Kootenai on Thursday and the Bonners Ferry Tournament on Saturday.

“All in all we played well as a team. We used our outside hitters a lot tonight. Ellie had a good game defensively in the back row,” praised head coach Cindy Derr. “I like that the team is coming together as a unit and they are finally understanding the game better. I told the girls before the match, this was a revenge match for our football team, who lost to their football team two weeks ago.”
