Dover Bay 5K-9 to benefit Panhandle Animal Shelter
Dogs and humans welcome at 5K fundraising run/walk
DOVER BAY — The third annual Dover Bay 5K-9 fundraiser for the Panhandle Animal Shelter is set for Sunday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. The scenic 5k run/walk throughout the Dover Bay community is an event for the entire family to enjoy, including your four-legged, furry best friend.
“This event has proven to be a fun way to help raise much needed funds for our shelter,” said Mandy Evans, Executive Director of the Panhandle Animal Shelter. “It’s not a timed race so you can make the route as fast or as slow as you want to go. Strollers are welcome and so are your K-9 family members, as long as they are on a leash.”
The run will start at 9 a.m. with serious runners leading the pack. Slower joggers and walkers will begin shortly after. The route is paved and flat and provides breathtaking views of the Pend Orielle River and parts of the 70-acre nature preserve of marshes and wetlands.
Online registration is available at Active.com. Adult registration is $25 and children registration (12 and under) is $10. All participants will receive a T-shirt and the first 100 dogs to arrive at Dover Bay will receive a bandanna. Mail-in registration is an option for those who don’t want to register online, with forms available at Sweet Lou’s in Ponderay, Spuds, the Sandpoint West Athletic Club, 7B Fitness and the shelter itself. Day of race registration will also be available.
The Dover Bay 5K-9 is made possible with the generous support of local sponsors: Ezy Dog, Sandpoint Crossfit, Selkirk Press, Keokee, Taylor and Son’s Chevrolet, Sweet Lou’s, Stimson Lumber, Petco, Pierce Auto and the Dover Bay Resort.
“As a non-profit, we know an event like this is impossible without the help of sponsors,” said Evans. “We are grateful for the continued support of the community and hope to see everyone out on Sept. 25.”
