Yarnell, Shaha score as Bulldogs blank Bears
SANDPOINT — After an attention-getting halftime talk from their coach, Yeo Yarnell and Casey Shaha scored second half goals to lead the Bulldogs to a big 2-0 win over Moscow in 4A Inland Empire League girls soccer action Tuesday at sun-soaked Pine St. Field.
Shea Kilpatrick posted her first shutout in goal, stopping one shot as the Bulldogs (3-1-3, 2-0 4A IEL) dominated possession but had trouble producing many high-quality looks, with both goals coming off rebounds from the Bears’ goalie.
“That was as mad as I get a halftime. We weren’t working hard enough, or playing smart enough,” admitted Bulldogs head coach Conor Baranski, who felt his team wasn’t giving nearly the effort needed in a league match. “To their credit, they got the job done.”
Jezza Hutto had a strong game leading the attack from the edges, sending in some nice balls, which ended up leading to goals after shots on the keeper rebounded out in front of the net, where Yarnell and Shaha were there to put them away. Baranski praised the play of Hutto in the finishing third.
“Her tenacity,” described Baranski of Hutto’s play. “Her willingness to go at defenders with her dribbling was effective for us.”
The Bulldogs, who have the early edge in the league race for the No. 1 seed and right to host the district championship, host University High School on Thursday in another tough nonleague tilt.
