Stevens, Moore lead Wampus Cats in rout
ROSALIA, Wash. — Led by the connection of Wade Stevens to Bryant Moore, the Wampus Cats dominated the first half, taking down Tekoa-Rosalia 44-8 Friday night in nonleague action in the Cats’ first road game of the season.
Stevens completed five passes, all to Moore, for 120 yards, and also ran for two scores as the Wampus Cats (2-2) started fast, building a 38-0 lead at half.
“We came out fired up, did a lot better job executing,” said Cats head coach Brian Arthun. “We ran the ball effectively up front, and the passing game was clicking. We did a lot better job of cleaning stuff up.”
Noah Bova had a nice game on the ground, rushing 18 times for 129 yards and a touchdown, and Theo Icardo added a final touchdown to cap the scoring. Stevens also carried the ball 12 times for 58 yards.
Stevens also had a big game on defense, nabbing two interceptions, while Moore added one pick. Stevens’ play earned the respect of his head coach.
“He came out and led us up and down the field,” described Arthun. “Defensively he set the tone with a couple interceptions, and he made some big hits.”
