CLARK FORK — Brooke Stevens had a huge serving night, including the first seven and last nine points of the first set, leading the Wampus Cats to a big 25-12, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21 win over the Knights in North Star League volleyball Tuesday night at Clark Fork High School.

Stevens finished with 25 set assists guiding the offense, and hammered seven aces to lead the Wampus Cats (3-4, 2-1 NSL) and avenge a loss to Lakeside in last year’s district tournament.

“Brooke’s a silent leader. Everybody looks up to her, but she’s not a vocal leader,” described Cats head coach Cindy Derr of her talented sophomore. “I said ‘you’re the setter, you need to start leading them.’ She was a huge team leader tonight.”

Sophomore Hailey Bristol led the Cats with eight kills, Allison Warner added four kills and nine digs, and Emily Garman and Ellie Lambert comined for 27 digs to anchor the back row defensively.

Derr was pleased with her team’s enthusiasm and hustle.

“They weren’t standing there watching the ball drop. They went for some balls an popped them up some how,” said Derr, whose team is both young and talented. “If they’re all playing on point, we’ll do well. We have to decide where we want to finish up in the league.”

Clark Fork travels to Wallace on Thursday.
