EBCLD completes library design phase
When the American Library Association launched its national marketing campaign, Libraries Transform, around this time last year, I didn’t realize how fitting that slogan would be for us locally. Now, here we are on the threshold of launching a brand new website and a construction project that will make us all rethink what we know about the library.
“Your Library Transformation” is what we are calling our project to remodel and expand the Sandpoint Branch Library. This isn’t just about making the library bigger. The library has become a place for community connections and life-long learning. The physical transformation will allow you to enjoy even more of those kinds of opportunities while retaining the materials and services you depend on.
The design phase was completed just days ago and we expect to be able to share the renditions with you at a public unveiling event very soon. One thing I can share with you now is that the property located adjacent to the library on Cedar Street will be made into a parking lot and green space. Problem is, there is a house and Quonset hut on that property. Both are in good condition and our hope is that we can sell them and put the proceeds toward the cost of the library construction project. The Quonset hut can be dismantled and moved with relative ease. The cost to move the house to another location will be around $20,000.
Anyone who is interested in purchasing one or both of the buildings is encouraged to contact Library Director Ann Nichols at 263-6930.
For general details on the project, including design features and how the project will be funded, visit www.ebonnerlibrary.org. Please note that our website may be inaccessible over the weekend as our new revision is slated to go live on Monday.
