POAC exhibit opens today

An individual looks at works on display at a Pend Oreille Arts Council exhibit.

The opening reception for the Pend Oreille Arts Council’s provocative new art exhibit will be Friday, Sept. 23, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Columbia Bank Atrium, 414 Church St. Entitled Transcending Realism, the exhibit features exceptional multi-media works from more than 15 of POAC’s member artists.

The exhibit provides a journey through the movements of art history, beginning with realism and traditional art, then blasting into a kaleidoscope of distinctive styles. Meet the participating POAC artists and discover who influences each one’s unique approach, ranging from Matisse and Paul Sérusier to Willem de Kooning and Basquiat.

The reception is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided on the third floor.

The “Transcending Realism” exhibit will remain on display through Nov. 18.

POAC hosts numerous visual and performing arts events throughout the year in Sandpoint.
