No. 3 ranked Bengals down Bulldogs

MOSCOW — Lewiston, with a highly-touted spread offense and quarterback, played as advertised on Friday night, dominating the first half in a 42-7 win over Sandpoint on Friday night in the Kibbie Dome.

Three-year starter Colton Richardson threw for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns in the first half, as the Bengals (5-0) continue to light up the scoreboard and justify their No. 3 state 5A ranking.

The Bulldogs (2-3) were plagued by some fumbles and various mistakes on offense, and the Bengals made them pay nearly every time they had the ball in the first half.

Richardson threw touchdown strikes of 69, 31, 23, 18 and eight yards in the first half for 308 yards, and didn’t see the field in the second half, which featured a running clock.

Junior receiver Austin Greene provided a highlight for the Bulldogs in the third quarter, catching a strike from quarterback Robbie Johnson and beating his defender before racing in for a 77 yard touchdown, the lone score of the third quarter.

Walker Jacobson blocked a punt in the third quarter for the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint had some brief first half momentum, and were putting a nice drive together that could have cut the lead to 14-7 in the second quarter, but a fumble by Johnson stalled the drive, and the Bengals poured it on from there with a 28 point second quarter.

Sandpoint is at Lake City on Friday, looking to even their record.
