Sept. 27, 1966 – BULLDOGS CLOBBERED

The Borah Lions used blazing speed, almost unlimited numbers and a video tape closed circuit television system to hand the Sandpoint their worst defeat in recent years. The Lions scored almost at will, sweeping over the Bulldogs 58-0 and had two other touch downs called back.

HIT AND RUN COW

The brown and white cow that Arthur Evans, 1116 Pine, struck on the road 1.5 miles east of Clark Fork at 8 p.m. Saturday failed to remain at the scene of the accident but she did leave under her own power. Evans wasn’t as lucky as his car was damaged an estimated $250 to $300.

SKIRTS VANISHING

Ladies’ hemlines have bobbed up and down for years, but the long-term trend has been more up than down. Today, the skirt has reached record altitudes – two, three, even four inches above the knee.

Some social historians suggest that the skirts may disappear altogether. There is a precedent: Men’s skirts disappeared centuries ago.

Sept. 27, 1916 – LOCAL PARAGRAPHS

W.J. Davis, proprietor of the Lakeside laundry is complaining bitterly of the prices he is compelled to pay for materials for his business. Bluing which cost $2.25 per pound before the European war now costs $16 per pound. A pound of oxalic acid formerly costing 11 cents now costs 75 cents.

Three boys were arraigned in Judge Wood’s court last Saturday on a charge of petit larceny and were sentenced to reform school. The boys’ names are purposely withheld, believing that unnecessary publicity will not be beneficial.

ANDERSON TO WRESTLE

Oscar Anderson of this city has accepted a challenge from George Herberg for a wrestling match at Bonners Ferry on Sept. 30 for a purse of $200 in a finish match, catch as catch can, winner to take gate receipts. The referee will be a professional wrestler.

TO LIVE IN COEUR d’ALENE

Rev. Ernest Schneppe, pastor of the German Lutheran churches at St. Maries, Sandpoint and Coeur d’Alene has returned from the east with his bride, formerly Miss Ruth Reibel. The newlyweds will make their home in Coeur d’Alene.

COUNTY TAX LEVY LOWER THIS YEAR

Bonner county commissioners last week set levies of the state and county taxes totaling 12½ mills, a half mill less than the 1915 levy. The 1916 levy includes a 2 mill levy which will retire all outstanding warrants and free the county from all indebtedness.
