Louise Cecelia 'Sissy' Raftery, 79

Louise Cecelia “Sissy” Raftery, 79, formerly of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Louise was born on Feb. 5, 1937, in Cabinet, Idaho, the daughter of William and Celia Hummitsh and attended the Clark Fork, Idaho, schools. She married James “Jay” Raftery on May 21, 1953, in Sandpoint.

Louise was a “Navy wife,” supporting Jay’s career and living on Navy bases in San Diego, Long Beach, Hawaii, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Following Jay’s retirement, they returned to Clark Fork with their family. Louise raised her children while supporting Jay as a barber and later his career with the U.S. Forest Service.

For 12 years Louise and Jay were “snowbirds” spending winters in Yuma, Ariz.

She enjoyed the desert wildlife and visiting family and friends in Cali-fornia. Jay and Louise were married for 60 years and she was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of six.

She is survived by three children, Teresa in Clark Fork, Nancy in Dover, Idaho; and Jim in Clark Fork. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay; her brother, Bill; and a grandson, Michael Malley.
