SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man suspected of killing a retired Hope city official has been taken into custody.

According to a press release posted to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Nathan Lane Utt was taken in to custody in Spokane sometime Friday night to early Saturday morning with the assistance of the U.S. Marshall’s Service.

“This partnership with the Bonner County Sheriff’s office enabled us to track this murder supect down and arrest him without further danger or threat to our community,” Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler said in the online press release.

Utt, who was being sought on a charge of first-degree murder, is suspected in the death of former longtime city clerk Shirley Ann Ramey, 78.

Ramey was found unresponsive by her husband at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ramey’s cause of death was not released, although dispatch records county officials were unable to remove from the Internet indicated she had been shot to death.
