We moved to Bonner County in 1975. We were pleased to learn that the sales tax was 3 percent compared to California, which was 6 percent at the time. At that time, the average person could claim sales tax on their income tax. That has since gone away. We kept a ledger on every bit of sales tax we paid and used that figure when filing our taxes.

We were very surprised to see that because we had to pay taxes on groceries in Idaho that the amount of sales tax we paid was almost, to the penny the same amount we paid prior with a 6 percent tax.

So there you go, if you have lived paycheck to paycheck which we did for years, a credit at the end of the year does nothing to help you pay for groceries on a weekly basis.

You don’t have to do many things in life, but you HAVE to bave. Raise the sales tax, but take it off edible foods.
