April 13, 1967 — DAVIS NAMED

Duane D. “Cap” Davis, Sandpoint photographic studio owner, has been named a member of the new Idaho commission on arts and humanities by Gov. Don Samuelson.

Several friends gathered at the home of Ruth Beauchamp to wish Frances Crandell a happy birthday on Wednesday afternoon. Guests were Emily Hart, Louise Crandell, Elaine Clark, Myrtle Burnett, Frances Poelstra and son, Tony, and Helen Rheinhart and son, Rocky Jim.

CRABBS OBSERVE 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crabb, pioneer residents of the Morton-Sawyer district, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next summer at the Reorganized L.D.S. church in Sagle

Clarence Crabb and the former Ruth Wilson were married in the Sagle church April 21, 1917. They recalled there was two feet of snow on the level that day.

A son, Arthur, was killed in the South Pacific during World War II while serving with the Air Force. Ralph Crabb, Sandpoint, is one of the seven remaining children.

April 13, 1917 — COUNTY CONTRACTS LET

The county contracts were let this week as follows: Clarksfork ferry to Joseph Klug, present ferryman, at $75 a month; Laclede ferry to John Campfield, present ferryman, at $75 per month; Cabinet ferry to E. Price, present ferryman, provided he takes the contract at $50 a month. Price is now receiving $40 monthly and made a bid at $60 a month; Newport ferry to C.C. Church, present ferryman, at $75 a month.

It was determined to let the county physician contract every six months and “pass it around.” Dr. Patterson was awarded the contract for the first six months at $50 per month. George Potter, present poor farm superintendent, was let the poor farm contract for the year at $900. E.M. Brower was let the county burial contract at $30 a case.

NAVIGATION OPENED MONDAY

Regular passenger and freight traffic by water from Sandpoint dock began on Monday. After an all-day siege one of Northern Navigation company’s tug cut a channel through the half mile of ice by the short cut over the bar. It is said the ice through which the tug plowed reached 20 inches in one place.

COMPANY A IS STILL UNCALLED

Company A still awaits word to mobilize at Boise. The boys are drilling two periods a day at the armory. It is claimed that lack of space at the Boise barracks is the cause of the failure of the summons of Company A to the state capital.
