MOSCOW — Lake Wilks carded a season-low 85 to lead the Sandpoint boys to a team score of 363 on Wednesday at the University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow.

Nick Crowley shot a 91, Joel Johnson posted a varsity-best 93, and Damien Fitzpatrick returned from injury to shoot a 94 in his first round of the season to round out the scorers. Jacob Humrich (98), Caelan Darling (106), Wilson VanDenBerg (111) and Ben Schwartz (112) also played.

Head coach Tom Tharp was pleased with his team’s play, and fully expects the scores to start dropping once they start logging some practice time on actual golf courses.

“That’s Lake’s low score. He’s really been practicing and he’s coming on strong,” said Bulldogs head coach Tom Tharp. “Damien had a collapsed lung, and he returned for his first time out.”

Nina McDonnell also posted the best score of the season for the Bulldog girls with an 87, made even better by the conditions at Palouse Ridge in Pullman.

“It was windy and rainy, the scores are pretty darn good,” said Tharp. “Breaking 90 for Nina is outstanding.”

Caroline Hawkins was right behind with a 91, followed by Hannah Hurst (105), Cheyenne Nicholson (128) and Morgan Hogue (143) for a team score of 414.

The Bulldogs will switch courses tomorrow, with the girls playing in Moscow and the boys team in Pullman.
