Homework Help relieves summervacationitis

| April 15, 2017 1:00 AM

Before we dive into summervacationitis, a reminder to get your tickets to the Rotary Club of Sandpoint’s “A Novel Night Gala” by going to NovelNightGala.org. Now onto the dread summervacationitis ...

Are your kids starting to display symptoms of summervacationitis; that condition that sets in just after spring break? Symptoms include an overwhelming urge to be outside and difficulty focusing on school work.

We are all prone to the condition, but it is especially dangerous for students. With less than two months left in the school year, students may be tempted to coast through the end of the semester, resulting in devastating effects to the report card.

Fortunately, a new program at the library might save students from the painful effects of the condition.

Homework Help, a weekly study session held at the library, offers middle and high schoolers a quiet place to do their homework. Students can work together or alone, and staff will be available for help with basic questions.

The program is not a tutoring session, but it does provide an opportunity for kids to focus on their schoolwork without added distractions.

“The real draw is that students can collaborate and help each other as needed,” said Morgan Gariepy, Youth Services librarian.

Home-work Help is a drop-in program. Students do not need to register or commit to regular attendance. It is held weekly on Mondays at 3 p.m. in the Rude Girls Room at the Sandpoint Library. It is not a cure for summervacationitis, but it does relieve painful the symptoms until a cure becomes available.
