This is not a letter to defend Anita Perry. She is very capable of defending herself. This is not a letter to support Anita’s opinions about the school board or why she is asking to be elected to that board.

This is a letter to call for a public outcry for honest and careful examination of all sides in a debate. For instance, to imply that Anita, who has written letters for the Redoubt News, lives off the grid and is a doomsday prepper, as done by Duke Diercks, is to reveal one who judges others without considering his own limited education and narrow mindedness. Duke might be surprised that not all readers of “The Reader” are committed socialists and supporters of government control of our lives. Duke might be surprised to learn that Anita is not running against Steve Youngdahl, but against Duke’s father-in-law, Cary Kelley.

Any educational progress in Bonner County will be made by open discussion of all concerns without underhanded innuendo and backbiting. All of us should exam the subject of a letter to the editor, as well as the writer of the letter.
