Bonner County Human Rights Task Force would like to thank Sandpoint city offices and the police department for their swift action on the recent hate mailings. These mailings, which appeared randomly in city mailboxes this week, are meant to propagate fear. It is important to join forces in a united effort to show that Sandpoint is a community that promotes acceptance and inclusion of others and is not intimidated by false statements and random actions.

As suggested in the Daily Bee article, BCHRTF urges “those who received a flyer falsely representing Mayor Rognstad’s view or have information about the bogus mailings,” please contact the city police department at 263-1482.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. often spoke out against the dangers of complacency. One of his many quotes speaks to the current times.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

What will you do? If you have not already done so, consider joining one of the community action groups in our area for social justice, human rights, environmental rights or peace and reconciliation.

In peace to all,

LYNN BRIDGES
