NAMI hosting talk on EMDR therapy

SANDPOINT — NAMI Far North (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will hold its regular monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 19.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the old Bonner General Health classroom, 520 N. Third, Sandpoint. Catherine M. Perusse, a licensed clinical professional counselor in Idaho and a national certified counselor with a master’s in mental health counseling, will be the featured speaker. Perusse will give a presentation on eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy.

EMDR therapy is an integrated psychotherapy approach which uses eye movement to overcome trauma. EMDR has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and phobia. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. Scientific research has established EMDR as effective for post-traumatic stress.

Following the EMDR Therapy presentation there will be a support session for those with mental illness and another support session for family and friends. Each support session will be facilitated.
