School board candidates take to the airways

| April 19, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Lake Pend Oreille School District trustee election is coming on May 16, with three school board seats up for vote — and candidates for all three races will be featured in a series of live interviews beginning today on the 88.5 KRFY Morning Show.

Airtime for each show is 8 a.m.

The kickoff of the series on April 19 will be with candidates for school district Zone 5, Cary Kelly and Anita Perry. Zone 5 covers downtown Sandpoint west, including Dover.

On May 3, the Morning Show will host the candidates for Zone 3, Lonnie Williams and Victoria Zeischegg. This zone includes the area of Bonner County west of Highway 95 and north of Sandpoint, including residents up Baldy Road.

Finally, on May 10 the candidates will be Richard Miller and Gary Suppiger for Zone 2, which is the area south of the Pend Oreille River west of Highway 95 and south of Sagle.

KRFY Morning Show hosts Chris Bessler and Suzy Prez will interview and moderate for each program. Voters are invited to submit questions they’d like to pose to candidates, in advance of the show, via the station’s website at www.KRFY.org.

For listeners who cannot catch the shows live at 8 a.m., a recorded podcast of each show will be posted to the KRFY.org website by afternoon.

In addition to the live broadcasts, KRFY and co-sponsors Sandpoint Online and Sandpoint Reader will be holding a candidates’ forum for the three races on May 10 at the Columbia Bank community room. The forum will be 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.; everyone is invited to attend, but for those who can’t make it, the forum will be aired live on 88.5 KRFY.

Prez, who is KRFY station manager, said the election coverage is part of the station’s ongoing mission.

“The school board election, like all elections, is an important one – so we invite residents to tune in and learn more about the candidates,” she said.
