April 25, 1967 — BULLDOGS HOLD FIFTH

Six meet records were broken and another tied in the 17th annual Inland Empire track meet last week won by Lewiston, the host school.

Bulldog high jumper Larry Elliot and half-miler Mark McComas won their events dramatically.

As expected, Elliot’s competition came from Charlie Peterson of Coeur d’Alene. Both boys cleared 5-11, but Peterson had made fewer misses as the bar was raised to six feet. The Coeur d’Alene jumper was going first and missed at all three of his attempts at the new height. Elliot missed twice. On the last attempt, the senior leaper touched the bar and made it wobble, but it stayed up and Elliot kept his unbeaten record against Peterson intact. The six-foot height matched the Inland Empire meet record Elliot set last year.

McComas lowered the 880 record and had to do it the hard way. He had not run the event yet this season, having concentrated on the 440. In a departure from the usual 880 start, officials had staggered the beginning for the first 220 yards. McComas got the far outside lane and was not only out front from the beginning, but had further to travel in order to cut to the rail after the first 220 yards. In any case, he led from wire to wire.

Just three events later, McComas anchored the mile relay which finished third.

Every one enjoyed themselves at Chambers’ dance, except Frank Hanna, Mrs. Hanna and our genial school marm, Miss Stoddard. They started for the dance, but never arrived and we haven’t seen any of them since. ‘Tis feared they’re lost in the timber. Later — The lost have been found.

SHERIFF’S PROCLAMATION

I, H.S. Remer, sheriff of Bonner county, Idaho, deem it wise in the present crisis, to assure all residents of foreign birth that even in the event of the United States becoming actively involved in the great European war, no citizen of any foreign power, resident in Bonner county need fear any invasion of his personal or property rights, so long as he goes peaceably about his business and conducts himself in a law-abiding manner.

Let it be understood that every citizen owes undivided allegiance to the American flag, and he is expected to loyally fulfill all obligations which citizenship and residence impose upon him.
