Dean W. Eich, 84
Dean W. Eich, 84, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the family home with family gathered around him, after battling cancer for a year and a half.
Dean was born in Okobojo, S.D., on March 15, 1933, to Herman and Mabel Eich. The family moved to Idaho in 1935.
After completing school in Sandpoint, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1953-55. He was a logger for 49 years and still farmed and raised cattle to the present time.
On June 9, 1957, Dean married Dorothy Jean Keller. They built a home in Sagle in 1963, where they still live today.
Going dancing, socializing, playing pinochle and other games occupied most of the family get-togethers. Family came first, and he was especially happy to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit and entertain him with their antics.
Dean is survived by Dorothy, his wife of nearly 60 years; son Jeff Eich; daughters Pam (Robbie) Kucherry and Kim (Randy) Powers. Grandchildren include Adam (Carli) Eich, Spencer Eich, Derek (Holly) Kucherry, Jared (Emily) Kucherry, Kara Powers, Lindsey (Bobby) Barajas, Hayley (Angelo) Pisano. His great-grandchildren include Emmylou, Kane, Khloe, Aubree, Kendal, Brailan and Luke.
“Grampa Dean went to heaven today. He was the best man I have ever met. Grampa really was my first hero, my favorite pinochle partner, sit-on-the-front-porch buddy, and life mentor. He led a life of hard work, love and happiness. There are already four Deans in the family named after him and one more on the way, with more to follow I’m sure. He went peacefully at home surrounded by love.
“I’m pretty sure God’s cows were getting out of line in heaven and he needed Grampa to help get things back in line. I’m so thankful I got to grow up right across the field from Grampa Dean.
“He really was a special person. I’m sure anyone who knew him would agree. Thanks for being so great. I will see you as soon as God needs me. Love you Gramps, I will do my best knowing you are watching over me and the whole family.” ~Grandson, Spencer Dean Eich.
Per Dean’s request, family graveside services will be held later in the Westmond Cemetery.
