Another railroad bridge; isn’t that just what we need. More trains going through Sandpoint and surrounding areas spewing coat dust from the coal cars and more tank cars just waiting for one of them to explode like has happened in other communities in the country. And let’s not forget all of the extra horns we will all be subjected hearing.

BNSF states that a new bridge over the lake will reduce wait times at railroad crossings and allows a more fluid flow of current rail traffic. What a bunch of bunk! The railroad just wants to have more trains.

My old neighbor Jim Wolf, who has since passed years ago, was once on the Bonner County Board of Supervisors and he told me that many years ago when the railroad was coming through town they were only allowed 50 cars per train and can only operate between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. I would bet that law is still on the books.

Someday the railroads will be obsolete like stage coaches, whale oil lamps, etc. It won’t be in my lifetime but it will happen.
