WEalth of options brightens gloomy, rainy spring

SANDPOINT — Why, yes — it is still raining. Sigh. Then again, there is a wealth of entertainment out there this week to lift our spirits.

Live music is everywhere, along with the film ‘Emily’ starting Friday at the Panida Little Theater and featuring a writer/director Q&A with Saturday’s showing. The People’s Climate March sets out from Farmin Park Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., and the Missoula Children’s Theatre is hosted by POAC for two shows on the Panida main stage Saturday and lots, lots more. Have fun.

Thursday, April 27

Brian Jacobs

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

Brian Jacobs is excited to grace the stage for the Beer Hall’s Thursday Night Solo Series.

Truck Mills

It’s always a good night when multi-instrumentalist and master musician Truck Mills is providing the sounds.

‘Strings in Spring’

Venue: NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., in Coeur d’Alene.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Directed by NIC Music Instructor Gerard Mathes, this free concert will feature classics performed by the NIC Cardinal Chamber Strings.

‘Emily’

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

In this somber, romantic drama, Rachael Perrell Fosket plays Emily, a young woman struggling to keep her marriage from falling apart. When her husband Nathan (Michael Draper) has an identity crisis, he realizes that he’s not the man that she married. Worse, he realizes that he no longer shares their most fundamental beliefs. As divorce looms, Emily fights to get her husband back.

Brian Jacobs at Pend d’Oreille Winery

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Brian Jacobs brings an eclectic, acoustic sound. His music style encompasses folk, rock and soul.

Bright Moments Jazz

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Sandpoint’s Jazz Band is back on the prowl and this show at the Beer Hall will be a dance party. Arthur Goldblum and crew bring their upbeat and classic jazz sound to the Beer Hall.

Devon Wade

Venue: Ol’ Red’s Pub, 202 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 8 p.m. — Friday, April 28

Get your country groove on at Ol’ Red’s with independent artist Devon wade.

We might sound like a broken record — or CD — but we just can’t say enough good things about this top-notch group of musicians. Every one a star in their own right, but, together, they are memorable and amazing. Go see for yourself.

Whitworth Symphony Orchestra: ‘Maslanka 4’

POAC presents MCT’s ‘Gulliver’s Travels’

The little red Missoula Children’s Theatre truck is back, full of sets, costumes, and actors ready to lead local students in a performance of their creative version of Gulliver’s Travels.

People’s Climate March

Venue: Farmin Park to Community Hall in Sandpoint.

Participants are asked to bring colorful signs to express their passion. The march will travel from Farmin Park to Community Hall, where Earth Day-themed activities will be offered for kids and adults.

Spokane String Quartet

The Spokane String Quartet closes its season with works by Native American composers and others who drew their inspiration from the music of the American West. In addition to works by young Chickasaw composers, the program includes a piece by Charles Griffes based in part on ‘The Farewell Song of the Chippewa Indians’ and Dvorak’s ‘American Quartet.’
