BI-RITE DRUG SOLD TO DON RENCH

Don Rench, Wenatchee, has purchased the Bi-Rite Drug Store from Mrs. R.M. Curtis, wife of the late Murt Curtis, prominent Sandpoint pharmacist.

Rench, who formally took the reins of the store on First Ave. on Aug. 1, will be assisted by Douglas J. “Bud” Frick, who has been associated with the Bi-Rite as a pharmacist for some time. About the only policy changes involved in the transaction is that hours will be 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and the store will be open every third Sunday.

Rench was born and raised in Omak and received his pharmacy degree in 1959 at Washington State University, Pullman.

Mr. and Mrs. Rench have rented a home from Mrs. Jessie Lyons on Lakeside Drive. They have three children, daughters Deanna, eight, and Susie, two, and one son, Gary, age six. An avid outdoors fan, Rench feels he has come to the right place and will pursue his hunting and fishing at every chance.

Bi-Rite Drug was founded by the late Mr. Curtis and Donald J. Diehl in the early 1940s.

The Chautauqua opened last night with the Lyric Glee club and Dr. Andrew Johnson’s lecture, “Eli and Dennis.” Fenwick A. Newell’s fine tenor was heard to advantage with the quartette and two solo numbers. The Fillion concert party and William A. Boner’s lecture, “The House of Man,” were features this afternoon and ex-Governor George A. Carlson delivers his lecture tonight on “The Price of Progress.”

SOLDIERS LEAVE FOR FT. MORRISON

Members of H company, detailed here since April 16 for work on the railroad bridges, embarked this afternoon on Great Northern train No. 3 for Boise, under orders received last evening to report at Fort Morrison. Orders were in line with the recent announcement that all Idaho regiments would be called to Boise preparatory to reporting at Palo Alto, Calif., where they will go into training for a month or more before going across the big pond.

Sandpoint’s company A which has been on detail service in southern Idaho, will also report to Fort Morrison under the general orders.

Although the H company camp here was pitched right along side of the Northern Pacific track, for some reason the orders were for entraining on the Great Northern, making necessary a long haul to the G.N. depot.
