On the evening of Saturday, July 22, about 10 “rolling coal diesel smoker trucks” (parked in front of Eichardt’s) filled Cedar Street with so much thick black smoke that no one could not see across the street.
The modifications to these trucks to make this black smoke are illegal in Idaho. In fact, the making of this thick black smoke has been deemed illegal anywhere in the U.S. by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Health risks associated with rolling coal include respiratory issues. The American Cancer Society has linked exposure to diesel exhaust to lung cancer. A more immediate concern is road traffic safety violations, as the black smoke can impair visibility, risking motor vehicle crashes.
I suspect this “rolling coal diesel smoker truck” activity will eventually make these truck owners candidates for the Darwin Awards.
Anyone who sees this aberrant and illegal activity should record the vehicle’s license plate number, call the police and, if possible, take a photograph.
