| August 8, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint High School football coaching staff, in coordination with the Sandpoint YMCA Grid Kids football program, will be hosting a free Football Camp for any and all 3rd through 8th grade student athletes interested in turning out for the upcoming fall season on Wednesday, Aug. 9 and Thursday, Aug. 10 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Project 92 Field adjacent to the high school.

In addition to the SHS coaching staff, coaches for the YMCA Grid Kids 3rd through 8th grade levels, along with members of the Sandpoint YMCA Grid Kids Football committee, will be present to answer questions and provide introductions.

Camp participants are encouraged to attend both days if possible as one day will focus on defense and one day will focus on offense.

For students who have not already registered for the upcoming season, registration forms will be available at the camp.

Sandpoint YMCA Grid Kids Tackle Football has participated in the YMCA leagues for the last 10 years. The 2016 season was extremely successful not only in terms of wins and losses, but also player participation.

The participation with the organization offers a tackle football option for grades 3-8 competing against teams from around the Inland Northwest. The YMCA brings national experience and competency not available with other organizations. Safety equipment, including pads and helmets, are professionally fitted and is included in the cost of registration.

All coaches, both head and assistant, have been “Heads Up” certified. “Heads Up Football” is a comprehensive program developed by USA Football to advance player safety in the game of football.
