NEW BUILDING READY FOR FINISHING
A new lab, office and shop building for the University of Idaho’s Sandpoint Experiment Station is nearing completion on North Boyer, across from the Sandpoint airport. Present state of completion has the building ready for doors, windows and lighting.
The new facility will replace the old state buildings which are on land sold to Great Northern Railway for the eventuality of merger with the Northern Pacific and the need of a passenger train cross-over point.

Aug. 20, 1917 — GERMAN STRICKEN
An important change in the course of study of the high school was decided upon at Monday night’s meeting of the board of education, when French and Spanish languages were added and German stricken from the course. This move is in harmony with a general movement in this country to wipe out instruction in the German language.
It was decided to transfer children above the fifth grade in the Ponderay school to the Lincoln school, and arrangements will be made with some teamster or auto driver to transport them daily to and from the school to their homes in Ponderay.

CITY SCHOOLS WILL OPEN SEPT. 4
The city schools will begin their year’s grind on Tuesday, September 4. As Monday, the 3rd, is Labor Day, the schools will of necessity open Tuesday, though the board decided to ask the pupils to enroll on Monday as a matter of economy of time. The enrollment will not take more than two hours, and superintendent Henry has set 10 o’clock Monday as the hour for convening for that purpose.

NEWS FROM HOPE
Warren’s Island is a cheerful place at present as there are quite a number of summer residents in the pretty cottage owned by General Warren. Those at the island are Mrs. Warren and children, W. Hall and wife of Kellogg and Miss Florence Keith of Butte.
