Aug. 22, 1967 — GOOD DOGS AT POUND

From time to time the city pound receives dogs and puppies that are very nice animals, often of good breeding. They are brought to the pound because they are strays or simply because it is impossible for the owner to keep them.

Police suggest that anyone considering getting a dog contact Dr. L.F. Eakin, who keeps impounded animals at his veterinary clinic on the Dover highway, and let him know what kind of dog is wanted. The clinic could then notify the caller in the event such a dog is brought in.

SHUT OFF WATER WHEN SIREN BLOWS

“Please turn off your garden and lawn hoses when you hear the fire siren blow,” Fire Chief Art Chubb appealed again this week. “In case of a serious blaze, we will need all the water pressure we can get and right now water use is high.” He also said the only safe way to burn combustibles is in an approved burning barrel. Open burning is out as long as it stays hot and dry.

NUMEROUS MAIL BOXES DOWNED

Mike Plaster called the sheriff’s office Sunday to report approximately 20 mail boxes were knocked down between his residence and that of M.D. LaMarche on Lakeside Drive. Investigating Sheriff’s deputies said it appeared a chain was used to pull the boxes over. They caution that tampering in any way with a mail box is a federal offense and punishment can be severe.

Aug. 22, 1917 — CITY BREVITIES

An ice cream social will be given by the Swedish Lutheran Aid at John Hakanson’s, corner of Third and Larch streets Saturday. Serving will begin at 4 o’clock and be continued throughout the evening. Everybody welcome.

Dr. Will Potter of Kootenai, who is about to report for military service in the medical corps, on Tuesday sold his ten-acre tract at Kootenai to Mrs. Augustus Stockman of the Painter hotel.

2ND REGIMENT NOW A NATIONAL UNIT

The national guard of Idaho, with the guard in all other states in the union, ceased existence last Monday and became units of the regular army, in accordance with President Wilson’s proclamation. In changing from the national guard to the regular army, the officers accepted new commissions and maintained the seniority which their service in the national guard entitled them. New collar ornaments bearing the regiment’s army number will be distributed to the boys within a few days.

The moving pictures given this week at the Empress are as follows: On Tuesday evening, Billy Hart in the “Square Deal Man;” Saturday evening, a drama of three reels, weekly news and the usual comedy.
